On Sept. 12, 2012, about 20 Ashville High School students attended First Priority. The student leader began the meeting by taking prayer requests and opening with prayer. Campus Coach Benny Bowman then shared a message titled: “Two are better than one.”
Benny read Ecclesiastes 4: 9-12 ~ “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”
Benny shared an example about a crab. “One crab in a bucket would get out. But if you put two crabs in a bucket, when one tries to get out the other one will pull it back down.”
“In church and First Priority, we tend to judge people and say things like, ‘I’m not sitting by her or I’m not inviting him to church.’ Two are better than one; we need each other. The crabs are selfish or else they would help each other.”
Will you help someone today? Will you help a friend when he falls down?
