A small group of teens in Burleson, Texas started a movement in 1990 when they went to their school’s flagpole and prayed for their friends, schools and leaders. Since that time, an entire generation of students in all parts of the world has met on the fourth Wednesday morning of September at their school’s flagpole to participate in the annual See You at the Pole (SYATP) prayer emphasis. Students in greater Birmingham are a big part of this student led day of prayer with some 25,000 students participating annually.
 
“CONVERGE” is the emphasis of this year’s SYATP and is taken from Matthew 18:20, which says “For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” In this passage we find Jesus teaching about how His followers should deal with disagreements with one another. The overall message of this passage is that the Lord will be there with us when we genuinely seek unity.
 
What a great lesson for our students to learn this month. When we as God’s people join together for the purpose of unity, it draws His presence and blessing. It’s tough being a Christian student today, much tougher than you or I remember. Give your children an advantage as school starts back this year. Encourage them to be a part of SYATP on their campus on September 28. Also encourage your children to be involved in ministry on their campus- be it First Priority every week or some other student-led Christian group. We cannot go wrong when our Christian students CONVERGE for prayer and worship on campus.

To encourage one another, tune your radio on September 28 to 93.7 WDJC radio, 92.5 FM or 850 AM WXJC to hear the victories and struggles associated with this momentous day. These radio stations will begin that morning with wall to wall coverage of SYATP.
