“It’s great being a part of a network of youth pastors that work together for the cause of Christ,” said Brad Tollison, Bethel Baptist Church Moody youth pastor. “We have an understanding that we are all on the same team and that understanding has helped get more accomplished for the Kingdom.”
The local network of youth pastors in St. Clair County and Leeds have worked together for several years to accomplish one common goal: reach students with the hope of Christ. Throughout the school year these youth pastors, who are also First Priority campus coaches, meet together every week to brainstorm ways they can educate and disciple students in their community. Most recently, this group of youth pastors joined together to hold a community-wide Saw You at the Pole Rally. More than 300 students attended the event and over 100 made a decision for Christ.
“Our weekly network meetings are very encouraging,” said Matthew Kamper, Leeds First Baptist Church youth pastor. “First Priority has been a constant ministry in our area. It is through this ministry that denominational lines are erased. It has helped me to better focus on the upward call of God in Christ Jesus as opposed to furthering my denomination, local church body, and youth group. I am thankful for the friends I’ve made because of First Priority, but most thankful for the teaching of the importance of Kingdom work.”
These youth pastors do not compete but work together for the students in their community. “We are hoping by being in this community together that students will see the value of relationships and fellowship in the body of Christ,” said Stokes Skellie, Community Presbyterian Church youth pastor.
“The passion to follow Christ that is so heavily present extends far beyond the denominational walls that some groups face,” said Grady Morrison, The Gathering Place Church youth pastor. “The connection that is found among students, pastors and school administration has provided a new and inspiring environment – an atmosphere of Christ-centered love. It has been a blessing just to be a part of this ministry.”
“Being the new guy in Moody, I am amazed at how First Priority has brought all the student ministries together for one common goal,” said Joel Davis, First Baptist Church Moody youth pastor.
