Local students from churches in the North Jefferson County area put their faith in action by implementing a series of mission projects across their community during the week of June 8 – 12, 2015. These students gave up a week of their summer to paint houses and porches, clean-up local school grounds and help prepare work packets for students for the upcoming school year.
We as the local church are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus, and that’s exactly what these kids did. It’s easy to get consumed by youth camps, beach retreats, movies and bowling trips, but if we look around we will see many needs that can be met right here in our own city if we are willing.
Jesus made it clear what we are to do. How we treat others is how we are really treating him (Jesus). Matthew 25:40 of the Bible says, “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
I am very proud of these students for their hard work and dedication to serving others. They could have been doing so many other things but they chose to put their faith in action and serve their community and share Jesus with others.
So this summer, what will you do to serve others around you? How about your neighbor?
