The First Priority students at Spain Park High School have found a way to minister across the globe without needing a passport. For the last two years they have partnered with Voice of Hope Ministries in Nicaragua to provide physical and spiritual food for poverty-stricken children. Thanks to the efforts of Spain Park students, last year, 30 children were sponsored for an entire year. This year, 40 children have been sponsored. The children being sponsored live outside of Leon, Nicaragua. Their village used to be Leon’s city landfill until the government built a new site across town. These children and their families have squatted on the old land field, creating the village of Tomas Borge. Voice of Hope has built a pavilion in this village that serves double duty as a kitchen and place of worship. The children sponsored by Spain Park High School will be able to receive a hot, nutritious meal every Monday through Friday for an entire year. While visiting the feeding center, these children and their families will be ministered to spiritually by local pastors and the Voice of Hope staff. The money raised to sponsor these children was collected through a school-wide, week-long world hunger coin drive. One hundred percent of the money collected goes toward the cost of food. This year, students raised $1,821.79 by collecting loose change. At $.17 a meal, the Spain Park Jaguars will provide 10,716 meals this year proving that a little ‘change’ is just the change that these kids need!
