On Friday, March 30, thousands of Alabamians took time to pray for students, teachers, school administrators and support staff, and schools across the state encouraged by Governor Dr. Robert Bentley’s proclamation: “Day of Prayer Over Students Across Alabama.” Adults were involved with public prayer events to show students in Alabama their prayerful support. Local churches held 24-hour prayer vigils. Youth pastors gave out flyers with 24 Biblical virtues to pray over students in 24 hours. Prayer walks and gatherings were held at local schools. And, some parents attended First Priority Club Meetings to pray over students.
“The 2012 State Day of Prayer Over Students is an incredible eye-opener for the Christian community,” said First Priority Area Director James Cato. “More teachers this year seemed to capture the vision of the proclamation signed by Gov. Bentley. Our local students are facing great challenges and no greater example can be set than by the Christian teachers not being ashamed or afraid to pray openly for the students.”
Several members of the community, pastors and youth pastors joined James at local schools to pray for students while school was in session. The group prayed for the students’ faith to be strong and for God to give them the courage to stand up for Christ. James said Wilkerson Middle School staff gathered in front of the school to pray over students and ask God to guide and protect them.
First Priority Area Director Debi DeBoer said many participated in demonstrating observance of Day of Prayer at Oak Mountain Middle School. “It is exciting to see how each year we observe Day of Prayer Over Students that more people are becoming aware of how important it is for us as parents to stand in the gap for our teenagers and cover them with blessings and scriptures,” said Debi. “We had students, youth pastors and parents gather on the football field at Oak Mountain Middle School and pray the 24 Biblical virtues that each student should possess. Willie Prince, a local hip hop artist, started us off with a rap and got everybody excited and moving.”
We would like to give a special thanks to our friends at 93.7 WDJC Radio for continuous coverage on Day of Prayer. We would like to thank them for giving students and adults the opportunity to call the station to voice their prayers for Alabama students, teachers and school administrators. We would also like to thank the T.V. and radio stations, local newspapers, churches, and concerned parents and adults who helped us create awareness about this special and important day. Students need our prayers every day. Praying for the students in our area is not just a privilege…it is a necessity. Students live in a tough world! Each day students are subjected to literally thousands of offensive images and words. They also face an enormous amount of peer pressure to become part of what is considered normal by the world’s standards. Without prayer these students will not be able to stand against the insurmountable odds they will face from childhood until they leave this world. Please do your part and pray over students and encourage them to be bold and share the message of Jesus Christ with other students. Below is a link to 24 Biblical virtues. Please pray these virtues over students when you remember them in prayer.
