Former national championship and Super Bowl-winning running back (and current sports commentator for CBS Sports) will be the featured speaker at the SCORE lunch benefiting First Priority of Greater Birmingham. The event is Wednesday, April 9, at 11:30 a.m. at The Club.
BIRMINGHAM, Alabama — Former national champion- and Super Bowl-winning running back Spencer Tillman will speak Wednesday in Birmingham as the special guest of the First Priority organization.
Tillman will be the keynote presenter at the SCORE (Students Count On Real Examples) Benefit Lunch at The Club at 11:30 a.m. The lunch is one of the primary fundraisers of the year for First Priority, a non-profit organization that works as a campus ministry of local churches to reach secondary and senior high school students in the Greater Birmingham area.
According to Matthew Wilson, Executive Director of First Priority of Greater Birmingham, Tillman represents so much of what the organization stands for.
“We are excited and honored to be partnering with Spencer Tillman,” Wilson said. “He is a man of character that lives out the same message that First Priority is sharing every day with students in the schools across our area.”
He said that Tillman will speak on issues that resonate with parents and students today.
“He exemplifies what the SCORE lunch is all about – Students Count On Real Examples. He understands his needed example as a public figure, but more as a husband and father,” he said. “Spencer is going to challenge those attending to be that real example to the next generation, so we can see a positive change in our area.”
Tillman was a running back for the 1985 national championship Oklahoma Sooners and placed fifth in the 1983 Heisman Trophy race; he was also on the 1991 Super Bowl-winning San Francisco 49ers squad. Today, he is a sports commentator for CBS Sports and is a weekly guest on Birmingham’s JOX 94.5 radio station.
