We are excited to announce that two local First Priority students each received a scholarship from First Priority of America to attend Student Leadership University’s (SLU) 101 Conference in Orlando this summer, June 24-28. SLU 101 is where every student begins his or her leadership journey. It is a four-day, all inclusive, leadership conference that combines hands-on intentional training with state-of-the-art facilities. Students will stay in a business hotel, go behind the scenes at SeaWorld, visit Universal Orlando and learn the foundational rules and tools of leadership from world-class communicators who have studied it and lived it. SLU bases its leadership principles through the lens that “Leadership Begins at the Feet of Jesus” and Fortune 500 level training. At SLU 101, students gain vision through exciting and unique experiences that change the way they think, dream and lead.
The two recipients of the scholarships are Trenton Hamilton and Brandon Wiggins.
Trenton is an 11th grade student at Gaston High School. He has been involved with First Priority for the past four years, two of which he served as the club president. Trenton is very active in his church and has been on mission trips to Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, and overseas to England. He serves in his community as the Support Team Leader at Coates Bend Volunteer Fire and Rescue. Not only is Trenton the president of his First Priority club, but he also leads an FP Kids club. Trenton spends hours each month preparing for both club meetings because he is so passionate about seeing students come to know Christ. “I believe that my passion for First Priority stems from my faith in Jesus Christ,” said Trenton. “I believe that First Priority is an organization that betters our opportunity for sharing the gospel with our fellow students. I believe in First Priority because it has made a positive impact in my life as well as my peers. Countless students have accepted Christ into their lives by hearing the gospel through First Priority. God has preformed many miracles in our club.”
Brandon is an 11th grade student at St. Clair County High School. He has been involved with First Priority for the past five years and is now the leader of the club. Brandon is very involved in his church where he plays in the orchestra and serves on the Baptism Team. Brandon dedicates a lot of time to First Priority to help further the Kingdom. “I have a passion for First Priority because this amazing program helps students and touches many lives at St. Clair County High School,” said Brandon. “I think First Priority is very effective because it gives students a place to learn more about God. We never know what the students are going through but they know they have a group that loves and supports them and wants to help them grow closer to Christ Jesus.”
