During a First Priority club meeting this past spring, a First Priority student named Tyler at Springville High School shared about King Solomon and his request to God for wisdom. “That night God appeared to Solomon and said to him, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.” Solomon answered God, “You have shown great kindness to David my father and have made me king in his place. Now, Lord God, let your promise to my father David be confirmed, for you have made me king over a people who are as numerous as the dust of the earth. Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?” ~ 2 Chronicles 7-10.
“In his wisdom, Solomon wanted to chase after things that weren’t of God,” said Tyler. “He threw wild parties, feeding 4,000 people a week. He then decided that didn’t work, so he built things to help his kingdom. When he still didn’t feel accomplished, he got 700 wives. But still, something was missing.”
“Meaningless! Meaningless!” says the Teacher. “Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.” ~ Ecclesiastes 1:2. “He knew he was going to die and he couldn’t take any of it with him,” said Tyler. “He realized the pointlessness of worldly things and building up his own kingdom.”
Tyler reminded students of 1 John 2:17 ~ “The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.”
“You can’t take what you build on Earth to Heaven, but you could probably take it to Hell because those things drag you down,” said Tyler. “What are you going to do with your life? Are you going to chase God or worldly things? We need to hold to and defend the Gospel.”
