On Thursday, April 19, 2012, students gathered for First Priority at Mortimer Jordan High School. The meeting began with songs of praise and worship, and then continued with a student sharing his testimony. Blake Hand, First Priority leader, shared about his faith and encouraged students with words of wisdom to help them in their daily Christian walk:
- Surround yourself with Christian friends. Blake shared about a time when his church lost a lot of members and he felt very discouraged. He asked, “Where are you God?” He surrounded himself with Christian friends who helped him get through this tough time. Blake read Proverbs 13:20 ~ “Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.”
- Get involved with a youth group or Bible study group. “It’s an encouragement every week, and God is worth it,” said Blake.
- Be loving toward people and not judgmental. Blake shared that as Christians we will lose our credibility with people when we judge them. He encouraged the students to hold people accountable but not judge them. “Love your neighbor as yourself, and build them up,” Blake said.
- Never let fear hold you back from what God is calling you to do. “It’s never easy… leading First Priority, going on a mission trip, but you can do it,” said Blake. “Don’t let Satan hold you back from sharing God with the lost.” Blake read Philippians 4:6 ~ “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
- Never let Satan get a foothold of your life; persevere.
- There’s always more to learn about God. Get to know Him better. Don’t be prideful in your walk.
Take Blake’s encouraging words to heart today. Put these words of wisdom into action in your own life and share them with others as well.
