The 2017-2018 school year marks First Priority’s sixth year of implementing FPKids in elementary and intermediate schools across the Greater-Birmingham Area. We are passionate about exposing children to the Biblical teachings of what “Jesus Said.” The FPKids curriculum consists of four parts that are repeated every month: Read It, See It, Live It, Tell It. This year’s focus is “Sacred,” teaching a generation about purity without cultural stigmas. Christians are in a battle with the world over what is sacred. From marriage to race or gender, the world has lost its shame and forgotten what is sacred. Sacred means to be set apart, holy, and consecrated to be more like Christ. This year’s focus teaches kids about the transforming power of the Holy Spirit that sets us apart for a specific purpose.
FPKids has been a huge success thus far and is growing vastly with over 40 elementary and intermediate schools with clubs and involving more than 4,000 students. The atmosphere is enthusiastic and safe. Students are excited to invite their friends to attend, pray during club meeting time and learn about Jesus. We have seen the fruit of FPKids as students are attending First Priority clubs once they begin middle school. Our hope is that students will continue attending First Priority throughout high school.
God continues to move in existing clubs, and is already doing great things in clubs that just started. Brookville Elementary School, in the heart of Graysville, Ala., was one of the first elementary schools to adopt the FPKids curriculum and see students really get involved. This club has been a huge success over the past several years as students are engaged with the gospel and want to take part in leading their club. We have two clubs, Wilsonville Elementary School and Oak Mountain Intermediate School, that started meeting again this month after not meeting for two years because God has provided new leadership and volunteers.
None of this would be possible without the local church, parents and community leaders seeing the school as a mission field. There are so many spiritually-hungry kids just waiting to learn. Jesus has given the local church a mission to complete. Thank you to all those who listen to the call! High school students are passionate about answering God’s call and making a difference in the lives of our younger generation. Once a month at FPKids, we focus on what it means to live out what “Jesus Said” in five areas. Local high school students from Oak Mountain High School recently led small groups at Oak Mountain Intermediate’s FPKids club and challenged 4th and 5th graders to represent Jesus in their family, in their school, with their friends, when they’re online, and when they’re participating in extracurricular activities. It is great to witness older students share the love and message of Jesus with younger students. Who are you impacting today?
And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” –Mark 16:15
