First Priority held its third City-Wide Network Luncheon of the year on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, in the Michael Jordan Banquet Room at Regions Park. Nearly 100 youth leaders attended for a time of equipping, encouragement and fellowship. Everyone enjoyed a delicious meal provided by Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Q.
Special Guest and Founder of First Priority Benny Proffitt brought an inspirational message about redefining success in youth ministry. Benny said successful youth ministry is making disciples. He said disciples are people that are like Jesus. Benny focused on four ways to create disciples:
- RAISE – A leadership team; a plan to pray
- REACH – Non-threatening creative evangelism – First Priority Campus Ministry
- RESTORE – Parent/student discipleship; bible study and worship – Ephesians 4:23-24
- RELEASE – Developing servant leaders; ministry and missions
Benny stressed that, “The picture of the kingdom of God is not the church, it is the home. We are not going to Heaven to join the church but the family.”
Benny concluded his message by saying, “People without vision perish.” Wow! As children of God, let’s be like Jesus and go make disciples.
Representatives from Student Life, American Character Builders and Tree Top Family Adventure were also in attendance to provide youth leaders with educational material about their programs.
We would like to give a special thanks to everyone that attended and joined us for a great time of growth and fellowship. We would also like to give special thanks to Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Q for providing a wonderful lunch and to Benny Proffitt for an amazing message.
