On Tuesday, April 3, 2012, First Priority Student Leader Dalton Moore shared a message about pride during Gardendale High School’s First Priority club meeting. He mentioned several characteristics of pride: self-respect, arrogance, glory to self, sin that leads to other sins, and jealousy. “Pride gets in the way of our relationship with Christ,” said Dalton.
Dalton referenced several scriptures and stories in the Bible that involve pride. He read from Luke 15 about the Prodigal Son. He read from Proverbs 15, which says we are not to be prideful before the Lord, but humble. He then read from 1 Peter 5 about the elders and the flock. We are to submit to the elders and be humble toward one another. 1 Peter 5:5 says, “In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” Dalton also read 2 Chronicles 7:14, which says, “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
Dalton closed with reading from Ephesians 2 and told the group that God saves us, we can’t save ourselves. “We have nothing to be proud of,” said Dalton. “We are saved by God’s grace. So, let’s pray to be humble and go and share this message with the lost.”
“Dalton lead such an incredible message this morning,” said Gardendale High School First Priority Parent Karen Decker. “Students will look at him different now and start stepping up.” Karen also shared the following about First Priority, “It’s a support group for the Christian kids so they know they’re not alone.”
Let’s go and spread Dalton’s message: lay down our pride, humble ourselves before the Lord and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the lost, for it is by God’s grace that we are saved.
