On May 3, 2013, just before this school year came to a close, First Priority Area Director James Cato spoke to Leeds High School First Priority students about absolutely surrendering their lives to Christ. James challenged students with seven specific ways to surrender their life to Christ:
- Love for Christ – we love Him because He first loved us. We will communicate with God because we love Him. Does your school know you love Him? Show it! He’s your redemption.
- Hate sin – we are all sinners saved by grace. Go and sin no more. It’s the separation from God.
- Pray – Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Don’t be anxious; pray and talk to God. He cares.
- Read and apply the Bible – do what God says to do. James 1:22 says, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” Also, John 3:30 says, “He must become greater; I must become less.” It’s not about us but about Him. Think about Jesus and how He was treated. We will never suffer like He did.
- Don’t surrender to the words of the flesh.
- Christians produce fruit – fruits of the spirit. Give up yourself and show love and goodness.
- Live by faith.
